Where to stay?

I am going to be travelling to BB in December for five nights with non-couples. We do not necessarily want romantic and intimate. The Motu sounds awesome, but is it better for couples? We want relaxing, but some action, and convenience to the main island. Any help would be appreciated.

"Some action" and French Polynesia don't seem to go together in my opinion. The islands are very laid back and mostly quiet. What kind of action are you looking for? There is no nightlife to speak of so your activities would need to be geared toward the water during the daytime. A little more information would be helpful.

We are looking for a place where we can have water sports available to us and easy access to the island for hikes, bike riding, shopping, exursions, etc... The Motu may provide that, I am just curious if there may be a resort that offers more opportunity for activities that may not be so "intimate". I guess I keep seeing that word and it makes me think that since we aren't honeymooning we may feel too secluded. I was hoping someone else may have travelled with a small group and had some suggestions for the resort that seemed most conducive to that. If it was just my husband and I, the Motu would be it hands down.

This is a good question but I don't think there is a clear choice. Its not easy to explain bora bora. The only area with a concentration of hotels is the area I believe they call maitre point where they have club med-sofitel-maitai and the beachcomber in the same cove. It is near the closest thing to a 7-11 ,but it is not close to downtown viatape shopping area. From what I saw the Pearl Beach, BB lagoon resort and shearaton would have the closest access to the main shoppings areas but be reminded the shopping area is nuthin special. All the day activites are centered on the Lagoon and since they pick you up, any location will do. For a group the snorkel trips to the reef or the jet ski trips would be tops. We stayed at the Le Meridian and they had all sorts of lagoon stuff available most for free including hobie cats, windsurfing outrigger canoes, kayaks, snorkeling gear, outboards. It looks like all the larger hotels had similar stuff. The nights are pretty quiet in BB. What is best is to pick a island restaurant, they will pick up at any location. When we were there we were with a big group of mid westers who traveled together and were having a grand time.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I just thought one of the "larger" hotels would suit us better. We love to play tennis and I saw a few of the hotels have courts. Maybe I will look into those. We have been thinking about LeMeridien and the BBLR or maybe even the Nui. As long as I am there, I will be a happy camper!
