We spent the final portion of our honeymoon back in 2005 at the Te Tiare on Huahine. We wanted to do one OWB on our trip (also stayed at Kia Ora Sauvage on Rangiroa and Sofitel Motu on Bora Bora), and felt that the Te Tiare was for us.
The bungalows there were very nice, and what sealed the deal for us was that they are placed in roughly 15 feet of water. Some OWBs are in such shallow water, there's really no point in paying so much for them. At Te Tiare, you can dive right off your deck.
Just my two cents. More info, just ask. We also just returned from Raimiti in early September (check our trip report), and I see you're possibly headed there too. I'm already jealous and want to return to FP...

Hey back at you YosemiteGirl2! You certainly have a great trip planned. You’ll love Huahine, believe me. The village of Fare has an authentic old South Pacific vibe to it with the outside market and roulottes by the water....kids jumping off the small wharf, babies being held by parents on bikes and scooters...it's all happening there in Fare. You'll enjoy the people watching from Chez Guynette over a cold Hinano and some fabulous poisson cru waterside at New (why it's called New am not sure) Snack Marara. The Super Fare Nui has a nice deli so you can shop for picnic provisions or appetizers for sunset viewing happy hour off your bungalow deck back at Te Tiare.
There's great kayaking up and down the coast from Te Tiare, as well as good snorkeling at the reef off the hotel....a bit of a paddle but not bad. Coral Gardens off the old Sofitel (lovely location....too bad the hotel is closed and crumbling) is a must-do snorkel spot. As you need to rent a car or scooter to get there from Fare (easily accomplished at EuropCar down the road by the pharmacy in Fare), you could also add in a lunch at Chez Mauarii and snorkel at their beach or the one at Relais Mahana.
We've been going to the Te Tiare for 10 years and love it obviously! The location is unbelievable, the gardens are lovely, and the staff has become our family in the South Pacific. You won't be disappointed in the service or food at Te Tiare. We love the deep OWBs…they are huge and the fish life under them is pretty amazing. Several morays and an octopus hang out in the rocks and are easily observed from the decks and ponton. Sometimes mantas come to feed at night by the resto, though they've not been around recently. The beach is good for walking, especially along the stretch beyond the OWBs.
As you can see, I could go on and on about Huahine and Te Tiare....SORRY! RE: us and plans for another FP visit, we may be able to make a trip in the early spring. We were last there in November and are suffering from the flu badly.
Please keep us posted on your plans!

I always go on and on about Huahine and didn't want to go on and on about it this time. But now that Vaitape has go on and on, I second the going on and on about how great Huahine is.

If you can only stay in one overwater bungalow on one island, Te Tiare on Huahine should be it!
