I agree that Dengue Fever is not that much of a major danger to tourists, a bit of caution is always in order.

If you are staying at a beachside resort, you should probably be OK. I would guess you have a better chance of being bitten by mosquitos when on an inland jeep-sfari tour or something like that.

No matter what, please remember to bring your own bug repellant with you from the states. It is much easier and CHEAPER to bring your own can of OFF, as to buy it at a hotel boutique or other store. Ditto for sunscreen, film, and batteries. I learned this the hard way on my first trip to FP many years ago.
