Christmas - and still scarred

I went to Huahine about a dozen years ago. It was the last day I remember being alive.
A Tahitian man attacked me, ripping out my eyeball, tearing apart my face. My friends are kind but my scars are clear. Oh, and he raped me too.
The hotel staff came to my aid and I was roughly stitched up and the man who attacked me (who was known on the island as a lunatic) was promptly imprisoned.
I hope things have changed since then. I think about it and look at my face every day and still find it hard to get over.
I think sharks are the least of your worries over there.

Is this a true story? What hotel?
My hubby and I have been to Huahine the equivalent of staying there for 4 months until his latest stay now which will be five months.
I have never felt unsafe there.
I am going to ask my husband tonight to find out if this story is true. What hotel would allow a crazy person on the grounds? It's a small island. any crazy people would be well known and would not be allowed at a hotel.

Yes it is a true story. I don't know what you think I have to gain by making it up. Because it has not happened to you does not mean it cannot happen to anyone.
Sorry for sounding gruff but I find you questioning pretty rude. It did not happen IN the hotel, it happened when i was walking back from the main town square where all the food vans are, through the fairly extensive hotel grounds to my cabin.
The hotel had a main reception area, with the beach at the front, and stand alone cabins scattered behind around the (unfenced) grounds. This man WAS a well known crazy, the police picked him up straight away and in the small police station where I had to pick him up out of a line up of five, the police actually helped me identify him as I could not remember what he looked like.
Ask your husband - if he was in Huahine around 1997/98 he should remember it well - it was in the paper and due to my head injuries I was stuck in Huahine for a few days as I was too unwell to get back on the ferry.
I was so angry that when I was able I went into the supermarket with my head all bandaged up and walked through the town square so everyone could see what was done to me before I left. I doubt there was a person on that island at the time who would not remember seeing me, and my injuries, and/or have heard the "gossip" about it, or read a news report. The reception staff actually saved my life. They heard my screams from reception, and ran up and the man ran away. I don't remember any of that part, I was unconscious by then, the attacker had strangled me unconscious to the point where my neck blew up like a tyre. I have no doubt he would have killed me if given enough time.
I was told the man who did this to me was well known because he had done it to someone else before me.

Spammers?
What sort of spam do you think this is?
I cannot remember the name of the hotel, but if you read my post if should be fairly obvious by the description. I have a big file buried away with all the details, but don't care to dig it out if you are just going to be rude and dismissive.
Say you are in the town square, looking out to sea - the hotel was maybe 10-20 mins walk away to the right. You actually had to walk inland a bit to get into the grounds, although the reception was at the beachfront.
If it makes you feel any better, everyone else on the island was very kind to me, and quite a few apologised on my attacker's behalf.
Since he had stolen my passport and money (which unfortunately I had instead of traveller's cheques) the hotel waived any charges, the doctor did not charge me, nor the little hospital.
I am not 100% sure but I think the ferry went to Moorea (could have been Papeete) and a lady, seeing me asleep in a field, paid for my accommodation at a very nice hotel for a week.
I had to delay my flight due to the head injuries.
Look believe me or don't. It doesn't change what happened.
If there is ONE person that was in Huahine at that time, they may be able to confirm but I am not here to convince you of anything.
There can't be that many hotels on Huahine with separate raised cabins spread over the grounds and a private beach at the front in the area where I have described.
It saddens me you think this is spam. What for?????
If I can can find a detailed map (or you can point me to one) I will be able to show you the location of the hotel.

What a horrible thing to happen to you. Unfortunately, there are some people like this all over the world. No place is 100% safe and you found yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time. I hope you seek counselling because it can do a lot to help you heal.

Kimbo is describing the no longer extant Hotel Bali Hai and, given the Christmas date of the posting, was probably having a really bad recall of the event. The date she gives also sounds like it was a Christmas / New Year's dream vacation gone terribly wrong.
This is a very unusual thing to happen in FP, but violence at the hands of the insane is possible anywhere. Kimbo holds anger towards the place where it happened, the civilization in which it happened (mitigated by the acts of kindness provided by others in that civilization), and towards the man who harmed her.
Seems about right to me, even 13 years after the event. I have no idea how one recovers from such an experience
