Hi all,

I got a quote for a package for Moorea and Bora Bora and was given the following three choices for Bora Bora Overwater Bungalows. I will be going at end of Feb for my honeymoon. Any advice on which resort is best. I would like something romantic, good snorkeling and good food. Also the Le Meridian package does not include breakfast but the other two do.

Thanks so much in advance!

Intercontinental Le Moana Bora Bora
Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort & Spa
Le Meridien Bora Bora

Are there any questions I should be asking in terms of type of bungalow, view etc?

Thanks again!

If you want good snorkelling, skip Le Meridien. It's a great place for those who want sand and not coral (very rare on Bora Bora) but not for snorkellers. Other than swimming at Le Meridien, I've only walked around the Intercontinental Le Moana. It's on the main island of Bora Bora so the views of the island aren't anywhere nearly as nice as they are from the motus but you have quick access to all kinds of restaurants and a couple of shops for groceries, etc. I would think the Pearl is more upscale, but looking at photos, I'm not sure what the snorkelling is like. I know others here have stayed there so, hopefully, they'll chime in on that.

Once you narrow down your resort, ask them for a bungalow that isn't near any boat lanes with a beautiful view of the island, if possible. You can even give them a list of a few bungalows you'd prefer. We got our exact bungalow on Bora Bora that way and the resort chose a fantastic one (better than the choices we gave them, it turned out) on Moorea.

We're not fans of BB so don't have much to lend other than the snorkeling by the Pearl is pretty decent......we know the area to the right (while you're facing the island) of the hotel has good snorkeling. The PG uses the beach around the bend from the Pearl and my DH has had some very very good snorkels there. I 2nd OW's comments about staying on the island rather than the motus......very handy to shops and restos. And, you can always get out to the motus if you book a snorkel excursion. If only Hotel BB was still operating........!!!

I know this isn't on any of your lists, but IMHO the Sofitel Motu (not the former Marara, but the private island across from it) has the best snorkeling and the best views of the high island. I believe it is child-free (on the private island side), and the resort is small and intimate, with easy access to the other facilities of the sister resort (a 5 minute, free, on-demand boat ride away). I think it's been recently renovated, too. Because their coral garden is so great, sometimes there will be small boats who moor near the OWBs closest to the coral gardens, which we did not like, but they go away very quickly.

So, something to consider. Sorry if I've unintentionally complicated your planning process.

In deciding between those 2 (if those are your choices), decide if you want to be on a motu overlooking Bora Bora with beautiful views and privacy or on the mainland where you can walk to shops and restaurants. We prefer the motu experience, but others like to be near the action.

We are looking at staying at Sofitel Motu in December (if we can't the room we want at Four Seasons). I like their location also, because you are on a motu but have the free shuttle across to Marara to go to the Tiare Market and restaurants etc.

Pearl also has a free shuttle into Vaitape a few times a day which is very well organised IMO.

One of the nicest things about the Sofitel Motu is the fact the shuttle is on-demand. You don't have to plan when you're leaving your room or returning...just let them know you need a lift. Of course, the Sofitel Motu is great for many other reasons (an amazing view of Mount Otemanu, incredible snorkelling, privacy, etc.).

Yes, we loved the Sofitel Motu (the one on the motu). I see you've been given Yves' contact info in another post here--do contact him.
