What's up:

There's big water problem in Moorea (due to drought, despite it being the rainy season), the resorts are at this time being provided by water trucks...

I didn't have any problems with water. BUT they did say it has been quite dry and are worried about the drought conditions.

New FP budget has been approved, at last, but apparently there is a dispute over which budget is the correct one! http://en.tahitipresse.pf/2011/02/french-polynesia-assembly-approves-new-budget/

It was approved last Saturday night at the assembly without the presence of the prezzzzzzz who is not in agreement as to various amendements (major tax cuts by the oposition) and who now refuses to publish the budget in the JOPF (official journal of fp) and to execute it saying it is no longer his, but another budget.
This means the government situation is completely blocked until the High Court in France pronounces itself on the legal technicallity of this cat and mouse game that is going on, who is right, who is wrong and which is the correct budget to be applied and executed by the prez of FP

They just announced on the radio that probably the High Commissioner will go into action as at present no investments, no projects no nothing can be financed (no payments made) by the government and unemployment is forever rising and companies going broke, the unstable political situation has been going on for much too long.

Regarding the question of whether there is a liquids restriction on interisland flights on Air Tahiti (and whether duty-free alcohol needs to be repacked in checked luggage after arrival in Papeete), here is a response I received today from our good friend Jacques:

"Barbara.
I called Air Tahiti and explained the situation and your question and the girl put me on hold for a while, I suppose to ask somebody who knew then she said it was no probllem taking duty free liquids as carry-on on Air Tahiti's flight to Moorea as long as the duty free bottles have not been opened and are in a dutyfree bag, she said to show them when you board.
I hope this answers your and Brooke and Steve's question.
Jacques"

YAY -- duty free bottles are okay as carry-on on interisland flights!

I hope we haven't opened up a can of worms, ie now that we have asked the specific question, maybe they will now start being more observant of what we're carrying on board?
