I had to change my name from holte as I don't know my password.

I arrived last Weds. ATN-not as fun as in the past. Not all of the clothing changes, for one thing. No turbulence on this flight.

I always order vegetarian so I get my meal first. I wish I was a vegetarian, but I am too lazy. I just do not like mystery meat on the plane. My food was fine and unremarkable, as I do not recall what it was.

I had about 140 pounds of luggage. I tried to be nonchalant about my carry-on by leaving it on the cart, but they asked to weigh it. I have no idea why, but they did not charge me the 7000 that I should have been charged. My charge was way way less. Maybe they felt I was so pathetic. Who knows.

The bungalow that my hubby had just was not going to work for a number of reasons. The most important one is that the neighbor's dog would have ripped my screen gazebo that we bring to shreds in a matter of moments.

We are presently staying at the home of a friend who has 2 houses. But the house that we are staying in is scheduled for remodeling, so the stay will be short.

We have a possibility of a rental down by the Fare Maeva. There are three bungalows that are immaculate right by the water. They have been there for 5 years, but the people do not advertise. One is owner occupied, another is let to a teacher for a year, and the one we could have is supposed to be vacant on March 1. But the person may change his mind.

We are learning that we must be patient and things change a lot around here. So we are kind of homeless.

If we do rent the place by Fare Maeva, I will find out the contact info as it appears to be very nice.

The new hotel that is being built on the Bali Hai site is supposed to be done in April. I believe the rooms are about $300/night. Directly adjacent is the Pearl Treehouse with pearls from Huahine. They are supposed to be the most inexpensive for a number of reasons, so a good choice for those who wish to purchase pearls. You can even make your own necklace there.

The walkway from the Snack Temarara has heavy equipment on it, but one can walk on it if one wishes to.

Housing has gone way down in price because of the lack of tourism. Quite frankly, I do not know why people do not choose to go to the Te Tiare instead of places on Bora Bora.

The Villas Bougainville with the house, car and boat is a bargain indeed. Where could anyone get a deal like that?

I found out something interesting about rental cars here. If you have a flat tire, it is your responsibility. A person got a window smashed in and they had to pay for the window. So check that out if you rent a car.

I also found out that stonefish like to go where fishermen/women clean fish, so be careful around areas such as that, like the dock at downtown Fare.

The excitement here was when the Maupiti Explorer ran aground. The captain fell asleep because he had been ferrying children from the islands to an event non-stop. It was full speed ahead to land.

A big govt boat came and towed it to Papeete because a gash had happened in the hull.

My hubby has a Jialing which is an OK scooter for him, but for 2 of us, it is not a comfy ride for far.

Cars in good condition are hard to come by here. Rental cars are used for a couple of years. When a new rental car arrives, people start making payments on the car. They are on a list for getting a car when available.

A decent car probably has to be purchased in Papeete for around $5000. We are mulling this over.

There is a woman in downtown Fare that makes a fabulous fish sandwich for 500. She is done around 11:00 AM. I hope to get one tomorrow. I guess they are quite large as well.

The weather has been fabulous, so far.

I brought a mosquito repellent that I feel works quite well. It is Deet Free. It is called Buzz Away Extreme. It comes in sheets like baby wipes so you can smear it all over easily.

I can't think of anything else right now, except how to those hermit crabs find all of the best shells?

Wow, longstay, it will be hard to get used to that new handle ;-)

I hope you get to stay in the place by Fare Maeva. It sounds perfect for you! Take care with that mosquito repellant. 90% coverage wouldn't be good enough for me.

thanks! I did email for my password, but nothing came. Maybe trying to get rid of me? LOL

Vaitape-my hubby had purchased Bushman that is 40% Deet. I have to ask him how much. He's off to Fare and was supposed to be back to get me a long time ago. HM!!!

He hangs around at the big palappa downtown with his buddies. So, when he gets back, I will ask him, unless he ran off with a vahine!

I just thought about it. I must have joined under another email address.

Vai-the 130g Bushman with the 40% DEET is 12-14 dollars. Hubby couldn't remember. He said he wanted something strong as he was helping a person on his watermelon-mosquito farm.

Where was hubby? He got a flat tire on his scooter, again.

I had brought a tire and tube and that's the one that got flat.

He had to walk to town; get a friend to drive him to the scooter; then bring the scooter to the repair place; borrow a bike from another friend; come here and get the proper tool to bring to the tire repair guy; ride the bike back to the tire repair place and hope his tire is not ruined.

He is talking about getting 2 bicycles for us. They are about $200/each, he thinks.

I might have a line on a car, but it won't be available until a month. Then we would have to have it checked over.

Hubby is not real sure about that particular car. He says that the cheap man pays twice. We know the owner, but it has been used by many people.

Over the years, I told hubby that we need a car here, not a scooter. He now agrees totally.
