#89120 - 03/03/11 10:41 PM Is $1,500 USD LAX to PPT for August a good deal?

We are going to French Polynesia for the first time for our honeymoon the last 2 weeks of August. The airfare from LAX to PPT is 1,500 on Air Tahiti.

Should we book it? Or chance it that the fare will go down. I have no idea if this is a good deal or not for high season :)

Thanks for your advice!

See my other answer (above). It's worth checking with Yves (who runs this site) in case he can get you a package that saves you money.

Look at the top of the page where it says contact us.

And yes, $1500 is currently about the going rate for August (which is the high season). The only chance of a sale is for a short duration time periods...usually around 5 days. ATN pretty much NEVER has sales for 2 weeks periods.

Kari, Definitely contact Yves and try to price a complete package, with airfare, hotels, transfers, and interisland flights included -- you often get a better price that way!

To contact Yves, either use the home page "contact us" link or email him at yves@tahititravel.com. You can also phone: 800-747-9997 1-323-655-2181 Fax: 323-655-2649

Gads, REALLY??? You'd consider flying ATN even if they were GIVING flights away?

Check out Air France prices.....they aren't without their flaws but they're much more reliable than ATN.

Do you want to go through what others who are trying to travel this week are going through?

Believe me, this week's strike situation is not unusual for ATN, though the circumstances are.

when we flew in November (hubby) and me in Feb , ATN was about $400 pp cheaper than AF.

The year before we went with AF because it was cheaper.

I hate these airline issues and with travel so far down, one would think that they would try to resolve things in a smarter way.

Vai, If you look at the AF page, they are experienced strikes with maintenance workers in France now too. None of the airlines are free from strikes every now and then.

Here's an article in French posted just a few hours, pointing out that strikes are everywhere during high season:

http://www.simplyvoyage.com/air-france/air-france-air-tahiti-nui-le-point-sur-les-greves_art482.html

Translated:

"The period preceding the vacation traditionally is the one of the notices of strikes within the airline companies.

This Tuesday June 28 2011, the Asian airline company Japanese All Airways risks being perturbed by the strike of the pilots, but this movement concerns only the internal flights.

The airline companies Air France, Brit Air and CityJet, that know they also of the social movements, should see the planning of the flights distressed tomorrow Wednesday June 29 to the 1st Friday July.

With the announcement of a suppression of 500 posts, the employees of Air Malted should show their discontent July 16.

The current limitless strike of Air Tahiti Nui does not have any impact on the travelers. Only the flights bound for Los Angeles were shifted.

If you must leave in the days that come, you inform with your airline companies before your departure to know the state of your flight."

Barbara,
YES AF isn't flawless. Not one airline is.

I've had way too many problems with ATN (All The Nuts airlines)and less problems with Air France.

Question: Which one would you choose ??? The airline with a history of less problems or the one with more problems...?

Answer: The one with the least problems: Air France

I've had the opposite experience; on our very first flight with AF, on our first flight to FP ever, they were oversold and try to pay us $200 to stay in LA another day and night; when we balked, they put us on an AOM midnight flight in awful seats, but at least we got there. On other flights, we were treated very rudely. Additionally, we HATE their schedule to FP.

ATN has been very good to us, and even when there have been strikes or delays, we have been treated well. Plus, the ATN schedule suits us better, and the prices are usually lower than AF's.

Different strokes for different folks!
