The quake in Japan has sent tsunami warnings in all directions. FP is on alert. Poehere said if they get it, it's due to arrive around 5am....she on Tikehau right now. Not the best place to be if there's a tsunami. Barbi is very likely being moved to higher ground this evening.....as I would assume the west coast of Moorea would be evacuated.
Hopefully all these tsunami warnings....to FP, Hawaii, Guam, Philippines, NZ, Australia....all turn out to be minor stuff.

The tsunami warning siren is going off as I type this here in Honolulu. Our 3 bathtubs are filled with fresh water and luckily we live about 30 feet or higher above sea level. Not a good time to be at sea level anywhere in the Pacific. Hope and pray for all those impacted by this terrible disaster. May FP not get hit and our friends there be safe.

Watching terrible pictures from Japan right now, lets hope for low impact for all of you.
Later links to news and pictures will be appreciated. Best regards on behalf of a group of 11 visiting three years ago - always on our minds!

They're just announcing that the tsunami that was expecting in Hawaii (about 1 metre high) didn't hit (or fizzled out). They're saying the waves are about 1/2 metre. Here's hoping FP had the same experience.

Here is the latest from Radio New Zealand:
The French high commission in French Polynesia has warned that the Marquesas islands may expect to feel significant effects of the earthquake off Japan.
It says the first waves are expected to arrive after seven in the morning local time.
It says the other island groups of French Polynesia, including Tahiti, are unlikely to feel any effect.
No official alert has been issued but people are advised to stay away from the beaches.

Now they've announced 2 metre waves in Hawaii. I guess some of the following waves are larger.

oh you're kidding....
So far nothing major in FP but they're waiting for the Margueses... we're still on red alert, no traffic near shores, all boats are out at sea, no planes and we have to wait another hour orso before it will be lifted.
