Heiva for 2011 is cancelled but they are having the comedians Gaston and Gaston followed by Oscar with his Talking Dummy on center stage this year.

That is truly sad. They better get their sh*t together in the government over there, and do it soon, or they won't have a country left to govern. :-(

Not sure yet Bob...! and tomorrow will bring a new minister of culture...

@ Yosemite... "our" present minister of culture (until tomorrow lol) would/could not make up his mind concerning dates... and organisation... so last week 2500 people went dancing in protest at the Toata center to put pressure on him... he then (after 3 months of deliberation hihihi takes time to get the brain in gear huh) decided to open the Heiva on the very day when all the students are taking their final exames.

The Heiva being so much part of the Tahitian culture it should really be defined as a fixed date for years to come. Guess long term thinking has not planted its roots here (yet).

I hope and pray the day comes in French Polynesia when some true
leaders come forward and run the Government for the people. The problems will never get solved with Politians who are looking out for $$$$ to put in their pockets

I think the French should just run it for a couple of years, get the finances back in order and straighten out the exorbitant spenditure of the present political class and all of it's allies...

You think the local citizens are ready for that?....to go back to more French control? Or are they still wanting to be free of France's rule?

It's one of those cases of be careful what you wish for.
