It's been two years now since our honeymoon in Tahiti/Moorea and we had such a bad case of the FP Flu that we've been saving to go back ever since. Now I'm happy to say that Tahiti 2012 is booked and we're counting down the days! (it's still so so far away...)
We're going for two weeks again (it's a log way from the UK so 2 weeks seems about right), in May 2012, we're stopping at the Sofitel Moorea where we stayed last time for 9 nights and then on to Bora Bora staying at the the St Regis for 5 nights. We stayed in Moorea the whole two weeks last time we went and wanted to visit Bora Bora this time round, just for a few days of hardcore relaxation!
So, any ideas on how to pass the time until we can start packing our bags?!?!
Hope the sun is shining wherever you are :D DD

Just come back here every day for a moment's respite from the FP flu (it's what I do)! It's sunny here and finally got above freezing, but it will take a lot more warmth to melt all of our snow.

Listen to the polynesian radio station through the internet (French and Tahitian) with Polynésie Première:
http://polynesie.la1ere.fr/radio
Click on "Écoutez en direct" and enjoy music (mix of traditional and pop), interviews, weather, traffic (!) and news in Tahitian and French! Feels like being there and you can brush up on your Tahitian!
I`ve been listening to them e-v-e-r-y day since my first trip in 2006..! I can now sing along with the commercials!!

Thanks, Andie. I'm going to listen to this all day instead of our news (I'm so tired of the upcoming election already, LOL!).

OW - LOL! ANYTHING is better than those old boys saying the same things...AGAIN! I'm so sick of this..and I live in Ottawa so...!!
DD - I don't listen to anything else...! Happy planning for 2012! I'm going for my 3rd trip in 62 sleeps...Like you, I've been counting for a long time...!
The radio station in Tahiti starts at 10:00am our time because they are 6 hours behind us. Before 10, it's the main station in France. I plug in at 10 until I leave this office at 4pm! At 3:30, they always have a 10-15 minute interview with a small hotel or pension on any given islands. It's good info and I find myself on their website as they speak!! Of course, it's in French (my native tongue), but you'd get the jist of it! Practice your French AND your Tahitian!!

I've been listening to it and I have been practising my French! It's great. I'm missing stuff, but I'm hoping that the longer I listen to it, the more will come back to me. I love it when they mix Tahitian and French together, too (is that Frahitian?).

the problem for us is that it is Frahitian. And just like in the US where we have southern accents and other accents instead of our perfect Minnesota English (lol), it makes it even harder for me to learn if there is a dialect that I don't realize is a dialect

Well, they do not mix the two languages together. They might say something French and switch to Tahitian once in a while (like I do with French and English!), but they don't mix words. Depending on who's talking, some have a "french" French accent (from the mother land) and some are Polynesians and do speak French with the "polynesian" french accent.
