You are taking a chance as the owner of a place that you want may not be available.
I don't know how good google earth is for Moorea, but it might show enough for you to see what you may like.
Be sure to reserve a car , though, so you can drive around and look for your dream house. Sometimes, a car may not be available, so it's best to do that ahead of time for sure.
As our first travel agent said, "You do not want to diminish your experience".
Also, if you are getting a Visa, you do have to put a phone, address and have documentation from the place that you will be staying. At least, my husband had to have that when he went this year.

We had to do that (put our FP address down) just to travel to FP (I can't remember where--on the plane perhaps?).

To get a visa, hubby had to have an actual letter from the place that he was staying confirming that he was going to be staying there.
Or, you can give the paid documentation of where you are staying in lieu of a letter, I think.
But, for him, he had to have a place that he was staying. He had to provide a lot of things for the visa including a complete French translation of all of our financial info and letters from our health insurance companies explaining our coverage.

You will need to have a written reservation (email from a pension is fine) to get a visa from the French Consulate. They are very strict about this, and want you to account for where you will stay for every night of your visit.
You may also have difficulty finding a place "by your eyes" since many rental bungalows are not visible from the road, the owner is not always there, and it may not be available when you want it. I'd suggest making a reservation somewhere, paying a few night's deposit, and then exploring for a place that meets your needs after you get there.
It's a good idea to rent a car to explore your options after you get there.
Welcome to the forum!
Try www.farehamara.com. It is not a beachfront house, but with beautiful views of the bay.
You might also like Te Nunoa, again not directly beachfront but a lovely private bungalow directly across the street from a beautiful beach. www.mooreabungalow.com
Also, this link will provide you with a listing of pensions and family guesthouses in French Polynesia and may be helpful. http://www.haere-mai.pf/index.php?page=accueil&lg=en
It will be in June. Do you think it's crazy idea and I won't find anything at all? Or I have a chance?
