Holte, Be really careful bringing American appliances to FP! If the small print on the cord says 110/120v only, you cannot use them there. A lot of appliances now (and most electronics, including laptops and camera chargers)have a 240v maximum, and they are okay to use with FP's 220v current. All you would need is a plug adaptor.
With a 110v appliance, you would need a voltage converter, which is heavy in itself, and doesn't really work that well with any American appliance that needs to generate HEAT (like a popcorn popper or a hairdryer, or toaster, etc.) I have brought several voltage converters to Moorea, and eventually, they either burn out the circuit fuse in the bungalow or burn out the appliance. I had an American desk-top fan with me several years ago that almost started a fire, even with a great (and expensive) voltage converter! It's not worth the luggage weight and the electrical risk to bring house appliances from the USA with a different voltage system.
You'd be better off buying your small appliances in FP. You can get things like a hotpot, a blender, a rice cooker, etc. easily at big grocery stores in Papeete, like Carrefour. I'm pretty sure you can buy a blender there too...and probably an air popcorn machine! (I actually bought a coffee maker once on BB and only paid about $30 for it!)

Holte,
Alternatively, if you don't want to wait until you get to FP, do a search for those things you need, but specify 240v. For example, here's a blender for $40 on amazon.com that has the correct voltage and plug that you would need on Huahine:

aargh. You are talking to Miss cheapy. I bought mine at rummage sales as they are old and I don't care if I leave them there.
Hubby and I only like air popped popcorn as we hate the greasy taste of any other type of popcorn. I know. Get over it. So I won't bother bringing it. Starting a fire is not on my list of acceptable activities.
The reason I thought I should bring a blender is because of the "colony quality" of goods. I talked to a friend who had bad luck with 2 different blenders there. That seems to be true of many things there so I didn't want to shell out a lot of money for something that would not last. She even got one from Tahiti, so figured maybe there wasn't anything suitable to buy unless I went into really pricey.
Any advice on a blender? The blender I bought is a very old one that I used to have. An Osterizer, I think it is. It's packed away. What to do? I doubt if there is any info on it as to terms of voltage.
I really do want a blender that works.
I REALLY am appreciative and amazed that you looked up a blender for me on Amazon. So I don't want to sound like an ingrate, but it weighs 15 pounds. I think that's a lot, but then again, maybe a good one has to be that heavy.
