wow. I think in the US you would have to threaten to sue the resort.

Forget threaten....you probably WOULD have to sue them to be reimbursed for any medical expenses.

I wondered if they thought we were sue-crazy Americans and were afraid we'd sue (so they paid for everything to appease us). I knew it was my own clutziness that caused it so no way would I have!

I've had experience with a couple of doctor visits (and even a dentist visit) while on Moorea, and my experience is that the care has been EXCELLENT, and very reasonably priced, as are the meds. My last doctor visit this March was same-day, no appointment needed, for a bad allergic reaction, and cost 3600 f (less than $50), with no insurance forms. The doc wrote Rxs for FIVE prescriptions (antihistamines, steroids, two cremes, and a powder) and the total cost at the pharmacy for those was 4600 f (less than $60)! I was completely fine within 8 hours!
The dental emergency was a few years ago, and was a pretty serious and painful bone infection. The Moorea dentist not only saved my tooth, but the entire visit was about $35 USD, which included Xrays, and the wonderful antibiotics he prescribed worked wonders in a couple of days. I've researched the brand, which is not available in the USA, and have even ordered it again from overseas because it worked so well; my US dentist was very intrigued by it.
When my kids visited us on Moorea in 2009, my little granddaughter had both an ear infection and a bad reaction to too much pineapple juice (she loved that Rotui!). Again, a quick visit to the doc, several Rxs, and she was fine for the rest of their vacation -- all under $100 total.
I would not hesitate to seek medical attention for a problem while on vacation in FP!

Wow, that's inexpensive! Thanks for the amounts. With those prices, it almost wouldn't be worth even making a claim on your travel medical insurance (filling out forms can be such a hassle)!
