Fingers crossed that the Volcano keeps on sleeping and that you are able to fly. We have Tassie friends who've been waiting all week to fly to the US...they are on stand-by for today's flight on Qantas out of Sydney so we have our fingers crossed for them as well.
If your transfer from airport to hotel is via taxi/private transfer company, ask the driver to stop at the market in Pao Pao. You can pick up some bottled water, beer, etc there on your way to the Hilton.....don't worry, you won't be the only folks checking in with a "stash". You might bring a cloth shopping tote from home or buy a plastic Fenua bag at the market. Tahiti Drink is available here as well....I don't usually drink spirits but this stuff is fabulous!!! It's cheaper at the pineapple factory but not enough defer your purchase from the market. Believe me, Tahiti Drink over ice on your deck while you watch the sunset.......ahhhh!!!you HAVE arrived!
We can't recommend a fishing charter company off-hand, sorry. If no one chimes in here, the folks at the activities desk at the Hilton can help. They are a super team at the Hilton and like everywhere else in the world, a smile and some patience (which is easy because they are so nice)pays off big time.
Something interesting to do if you feel like stretching your legs while at the hotel: Take a walk to see the carvings just before the public beach which is about 0.6 km from the hotel. Turn right as you leave the hotel entrance. If you walk a little further along the beach, you will find a small shop with the basics but last time we checked, no beer.
ps/If you buy beer, get it in cans to save on the bottle deposit.
