Hi Gary, Cath, and Poehere,

Sadly, there is no room at Tikehau (now that I'm all excited about it! We _must_ include it on our next trip!). They are totally booked, as are, weirdly, almost _all_ of the other hotels in the rest of FP (even in the Societies)! I thought tourism was slow! Honestly, I have no idea what is going on.

After much discussion, many phone calls, and huge amounts of stress, we've decided to split up our group, just for the 5 nights in question. My husband and I are going to keep our reservations at Raimiti (thank goodness we held onto them). My parents and my aunt are going to go to Le Meridien on Bora, since it is the only place (except the Hilton which has no views) in the Societies that has available rooms. We are sad because the Meridien experience is not really how my parents roll, but heck, they'll be on Bora Bora, and I know they will find a way to have fun. After the Raimiti/Bora break, we'll pick up our original itinerary and be together on Huahine. It's not the ideal solution, but given the lack of availability elsewhere it's the best we can do. I'd really been hoping Vahine Island might have room for us all, but alas, they also are completely booked.

Poehere, my husband and I were married in Yosemite, and we take long weekends at the park several times a year. It sounds like you are especially interested in the park -- if ever you are going to California and would like to include Yosemite in your itinerary, I would be delighted not only to help you plan a visit, but to show you around (if I am in town when you will be there). It is a place of exceptional natural beauty, and we know little corners where you can get away from crowds and just enjoy the scenery.

Thank you all of you _so_ much for your support and information. This board has become a group of friends. :o)

Yes, I have heard that many of the nicer hotels in FP are booked solid through Sept.

And Yosemite Girl...I too absolutely LOVE Yosemite...and to be honest...as beautiful as French Polynesia is...I STILL believe the beauty of Yosemite surpasses it. Truly one of the worlds most beautiful natural places!

Patti, I feel like the two are so different that it's not fair to compare them. Both places are impossibly beautiful, but for me, Yosemite inspires awe, like being in a huge gothic cathedral, whereas Tahiti makes me feel safe and relaxed, like I'm in a cradle being rocked by the wind and the waves. I can't believe I've been lucky enough to visit such amazing places! Next time I'm feeling put-upon I'll have to re-read this post and remind myself of what a lucky duck I am. :o)

Poehere...you are correct...that view when you come out of the tunnel literally makes your jaw drop! I've seen it dozens and dozens of times and it still takes my breath away.

and YG...yes I guess you are right, it is kinda impossible to compare them....they are completely different kinds of beauty. But....again...if I really HAD to choose one... as much as I truly LOVE LOVE LOVE French Polynesia...I have to give the nod to Yosemite!

I think your parents will like LeM. The view is gorgeous, and the grounds are really nice. Plus, it's Bora. How bad could it be?
