Looks like it will be harder and harder to exchange... FYI the banque de Polynésie (red and black sign) no longer exchanges TC's.

Wow, that's too bad. I figured I'd bring them as backup in case nothing else worked. It's kind of worrisome to travel that far without being sure you can get cash at an ATM when you need it! I assume the Banque Socredo still cashes them?

Well actually the Socredo no longer does any exchange at all for non-clients which leaves the Banque de Tahiti for T/C and currency and banque de Polynésie just for currency...

Wow. That's too bad. Thanks for the info! Do you know which bank's near the Moorea Pearl? I've never been over that way (other than driving through).

You're in luck OW, Maharepa has both, walking to commercial center there's the BdP same side as Pearl in 2 storey building and a bit further down is de BdT (Blue sign with tiare)

Bank of Polynesia will give you a better deal than Bank of Tahiti in Maharepa, with a lower flat-rate exchange fee. (We were just there this past week.)

Thanks, Barbi. We're probably going in 2012 so I'll check back then to see if anyone knows which is better then. I'm pretty sure Bank of Tahiti was best in Fare when we were there (but Socredo was best of all).

So I'm back revisiting this thread, trying to decide whether or not to take travellers cheques on our upcoming trip like I have for previous trips (I can get them for no fee at my bank) or rely on the ATMs. We'll arrive with some XPF so we can get to CBH, but we'll need more money after that. If the banque de polynesie and socredo won't take TCs, we'll have to go to the banque de Tahiti in Maharepa. But I'm wondering if I can trust that my debit card will work at one of the Maharepa bank's ATMs. If it doesn't work at an ATM, can I walk into the bank and use it that way? Anyone know?
I'm guessing the airport ATMs shouldn't be counted on on a Saturday morning for cash.
