Euros to XPF?

T minus two weeks and counting. My French husband and I are going to be in Bora Bora on Aug 2nd. OMG!!! I have NEVER been any place tropical EVER! I always felt Hawaii wouldn't do it for me. I have been to 14 countries though. Just never thought of going to a tropical island!
My husband has been to the Seychelles, Maldives and Mauritius so I wonder what he will think of BB?
We pretty much gave our first born for this but hey.... you live once right? We got an OWB Diamond at the ICT. I hope we made the right decision. I did pick it because of the modern urban decor which is something we both really like.
So, my husband and I have Euros sitting around (actually cash in a bank). Also, he will be using his "French" credit card. Should we use our US card instead? Should we go to our local bank here and exchange our Euros for XPF? Should we exchange US dollars for XPF? We have one night in Tahiti... should we do it there?
???? Thanks in advance!
PS. No travelers checks please :) My husband is a French citizen so I guess he can use his French passport!!

1.00 EUR = 119.332 XPF This rate is a fixed rate.
He can use his French CC and if you use a US CC call your US CC bank and inform them when you will be in FP
Exchange your Euro's once you have arrived in FP. Your husband can use his French Passport for entry into FP.

Indeed the € is a fixed rate, so might be cheaper to use the French CC to avoid us$ fluctuation. Best to take some cash in cfp with you for your arrival (taxi etc). Your husband being French he can enter and stay as long as he likes, if you are a US citizen you can stay 90 days. I am sure you'll love the Thalasso, it is a very beautiful resort! Enjoy!!

an interesting thing is that a person who had a German passport and was married to a Canadian-she being a Canadian and having a Canadian passport as well, was able to have her husband stay in FP for months because he was married to her.
There is something in the law there that allows it.
This just happened in the past 8 or 9 months.

So where should we exchange the Euro's? We have one night at the Intercontinental Tahiti since our plane doesn't arrive until around 7pm. We leave the next morning to BB.
Would it just be cheaper to exhange them here in the US before we go?

In most cases it will be cheaper to exchange cash over there. Not exactly sure in your case because you already have euros.
Quite honestly you won't need a lot of cash anyway...your best option is to use credit cards for most things.
If you don't do it here.....you can exchange some cash at your hotel desk in PPT and if you needed more, you can see if the airport bank is open before your flight or....just do the same at your hotel desk on Bora Bora..or you could go to a bank there on Bora...but it's kind of a hassle to get to a bank, wait in line and then pay an exchange fee....if you only need a bit of cash, it really is much easier to do to at your hotel desk.

Patti,
Doesn't the hotel desk tack on a hefty fee?

Don't know about every hotel....but I know for a fact some do not tack on a fee at all. Yes, the rate you get might not be quite as good as you will get at the bank...BUT the banks there absolutely tack on a fee....so if you are just exchanging a small amount of money, by the time you factor in the fee, it may end up being cheaper to do it at your hotel.
Again...I am speaking from experience of changing $US into local currency, not Euros. Because there is a fixed rate between the XPF and the Euro, it may play out differently.
How much are you planning on exchanging? If it's not a large amount, then just do it here or at the hotel...the convenience factor will easily outweigh the cost.

The taxi from airport to IC in tahiti will cost between 1500 and 2500 xpf depending on your arrival time. It is handy to have at leat that in local currency. There's an exchange machine at the airport in Papeete but mostly out of service. Exhanging in LAx is prob the most expensive in the world.
The hotels do exhange without a commission but ofcourse the rate is soso. For the € they'll prob give you 110 iso of the 119,33 fixed rate but still it is more practical than looking for a bank.
When in BB in Vaitape there are 2 banks with cash machines too.

Thanks everyone! We have transportation already from the airport to our hotel. We did a package through a travel agency. We also have the food included... I know that can be a wallet buster.
Thank you!!! You all rock! I know I am going to be blown away. I still believe all those pics of FP are photoshopped!!!
