is unemployed again!

They let him go yesterday...after just 3 days of work! They hadn't even started the actual job yet. They have just been setting up all the racking and stuff in the warehouse as it is a brand new facility.

The employment agency called him to tell him. They changed their story they told the employment company a couple times...finally came back with the answer "he's not a good fit". And then they tell Paul in an email that he asked too many questions about the company that he didn't need to know or didn't need to be asking. This is after they told him on day one they were grooming him to take over as manager so the others could return to Atlanta.....and that all the decisions were going to be made by the 4 of them....the 2 managers who came out from Atlanta and the 2 new guys hired here (Paul being one of these)....and they wanted his input on things because of his experience setting up a warehouse from scratch before. They used many of his suggestions in the past few days and then BAM...thanks but no thanks!

He's not sure if they thought he was stepping on their toes by asking questions or offering his suggestions because he has a lot more experience and knowledge than they do. He also thinks part of the issue may be his age and they are using every other excuse because they can't call him on that. He's by far the oldest guy of the 4.

Sooo...back to the drawing board. :-(

And what's the front page story in our local paper this morning?...Las Vegas Unemployment back up to 14%. And that doesn't even count people like Paul who are no longer on unemployment benefits! Our real unemployment is actually closer to 20%.

I know. In a way, it's probably better that it happened now rather than 2-3 months down the line. But it's just so damn disheartening. He is just crushed. As if his self worth wasn't far enough in the toilet before. :-(

Oh well..let me pull out some pics of FP to look at...that'll cheer me up!

Wow, that's horrible, Patti! What incredibly shoddy treatment. I hope karma bites them in the bum. Poor Paul. I can imagine how disheartening this is for him. Fingers and toes crossed here that something else turns up for him.

I have a friend who was laid off from the Northwest Airlines maintenance base that we taxpayers paid for here and they moved to some Third World Nation,

At any rate, I don't know if it's Minnesota or everywhere, but he found some tiny info somewhere that allowed him to go to school. Maybe there is something like that? Then your hubby could get a student job as well.

Or he could go to school with a loan and work a student job. Are there any quick and easy fields where there is work so as the medical?

I know how painful being out of work a long time can be.

I found that I felt a lot better if I was working whether for free (volunteering) or in a temp job. In fact, that's how I found my last two full time jobs.

I'm sure that he will find something better than the job that he just lost. It's a terrible feeling to have to go to a job that's not working out.

another option is Americorps. They only pay $8 an hour, but you get medical and $5000 to use for tuition. You can do it for 2 years. I think they pay for transportation to and from work.

How about becoming a teacher? I think there is some program where you can come in without a teaching degree. You have to work in a low income school which should be easy in LV. I forget the name of the program--Teach for America maybe?

Oh Patti, so sorry for you both, what a bummer!!

But I think its happening everywhere - I am out of a job at the end of this year as well (I have worked for a diabetes specialist for the past 4 years, and now he is retiring at the end of Dec 2011).

And it looks like Gary is getting redundancy from BlueScope (formerly BHP steelworks) because of high Aussie dollar (their contracts are in US dollars), cheaper steel being made elsewhere, carbon tax etc etc - he has been there for almost 30 years!

On a more positive note though, we have found a dive shop for sale in the Pacific and we are flying over to check it out in the next few weeks - exciting!!!
