This was shot a couple days ago. It was so bad the Billabong surf contest was called off, but they were out there anyway. I'm not sure who's worse, the surfers or the camera men who shot this in slow motion. And, the wave, us unbelievably thick. Ouch.

Wow, amazing footage! I loved the second video (further down). I don't follow surfing so I'd never heard of thick waves, but yah! Now I get it!

It was so hot until tonight. There is the fire in the Boundary Waters , but it is not affecting us. Chicago and Milwaukee and Gary Indiana are getting the smoke.

@Justine, during that weekend there was a monster swell across the Austral, Society and Tuamotu islands, it was HUGE like 30 foot waves so the High Commissioner put an official stop to all nautical activities including the Billabong... The surfers that went out that day OMFG it was just unreal, some got really badly hurt, 1 girl even ending up in hospital half her face ripped away, poor thing, they call that the "washing machine"

Holte- Looks like the fire is calming down. It was even smoggy a couple days in Msp. After the big windstorm a few years back, all of that debris has been drying out. Not good.
Poehere- I don't doubt some ended up seriously injured. The reef is really high, and the infections aren't worth it!!
