Lucia, if you don't mind me asking....How did you hear about this job? On the internet? Through a direct offer, or a contact? And, as someone else already asked...was there an exact job description and island location in the offer? Did he offer to pay for your airfare to and from FP? (as he is required to do)
I just seems VERY strange that he would be trying to hire someone in Europe...when there are many people in FP who are unemployed and may very well be able to do this job. It seems that none of the things he is legally REQUIRED to do...post the jobs for locals, pay your airfare, etc...were done or offered.
I think you are very wise for coming in here and asking about this and for stepping away from the offer at this time. It truly does not seem right...there is something VERY strange about this.

I'm so glad to hear that you are not pursuing this, Lucia.
Don't give up on your dreams of travel and adventure, though. There are all kinds of creative ways to work and see the world (and sometimes there are special programs for recent college graduates, if that applies to you). This is especially true if you are willing to get your foot in the door by working as an intern.
For permanent work, the hospitality industry may be a good bet. For example, a friend of mine worked on a cruise ship for many, many years and went everywhere! Are you an active person? There are companies who organize biking and hiking tours throughout the world, and they usually hire local guides. You might start working for a company in Slovakia, and after a few years, be able to work for the same company in a country you have always wanted to visit. Every interest area (art, music, etc.) has companies that offer specialized travel.
Choose an industry that interests you and start asking around. I have worked abroad several times, and my opportunities always came to me by asking around.

I happen to know Mr Cross and after reading the swill that these people have wrote it is laughable, Mr cross is a pioneer in In the Pearl industry if it wasn't for him the Japanese would probably still be running the show in Tahiti. As far as this nonsense about him being a scammer is even more laughable, he is one of the kindest and most generous people I have ever met.. The reference to him scamming investors is completely erroneous the fact is he was a victim of fraud by unregulated Canadian promoters that ran his company into the ground. So for all you people who have this shoot from the hip idea about him better dig a bit deeper. His break through technology just might save the crippled pearl industry in Tahiti, Thank God for people like him. Who ever this lucia is I can only say Hell has no fury like a woman scorned..
