we have an account at the Bank of Tahiti and we need to wire transfer some money into the account from our US bank.

We talked to our bank, but they said that they need info on how it is done. I have paperwork but it is all in French.

Any info on how it is done, please let me know. Thanks

Hmm. Usually all the sending bank needs is the name/address of the receiving bank, as well as your account number at the receiving bank. How your US bank uses that information to send your money electronically to Tahiti is part of your US bank's internal process, so if the person you spoke with didn't know how to handle it, you need to talk to someone higher up the food chain.

If you try again with your bank and still run into a wall, send me a .pdf of the instructions and I'll gladly translate them for you. (I'll send you an email address if you need one.)

Holte, on the papers you got from the Banque de Tahiti you'll find:

Relevé d'identité bancaire (= RIB) with:
Banque de Tahiti: showing 5 numbers
Agence: showing 5 numbers
N° de Compte: showing your acc #
Clé RIB: 2 numbers

Underneath (the Int'l code):
IBAN FR76 followed by the same #'s as described above followed by a mention: BIC and a code in (8-11)letters ... the BIC is for European transfers so you prob won't need that

These are your local (RIB)and int'l bank (IBAN= International Bank Account Number) identification codes and thus you would need the one starting with "IBAN" to make an international transfer. The codes in fact contain info as to which island and which agency etc, as well as your acc#

I sent her a copy of the form I have used for over 20 years.
Now if the franc would only go back up to 176 to the dollar like it was in the mid eighties I'd be happy.

BTW Holte, when next in Fare (is that where you opened your account?) you need to ask them a "# d'abonné banque à distance" so you can do it by internet... They do have a funny way of allowing such as they will want to know the RIB's of account #'s you want to deb/cred via the net, but it works ok even for checking balance etc.

Thank you everyone!!

Our bank is closed tomorrow, but Tuesday we'll see how it all goes.

Poehere, we did open our account in Fare.

Apparently, they sent us a credit card as well or is it a debit card? to our friend's address in Huahine. We left April 30 and it arrived a couple of weeks ago.

My husband did the account, so I better get on it also when I get there. He has no idea why we are getting some kind of card from them. I should have gone with him when he opened the account . What was I doing that day???????

It's prob the local card to withdraw money with locally, but you'd need the code... all FP bankcards are made in France and take at least 4 weeks to arrive here... Check where they send you're code though as they always send that seperately
