I haven't been to Rangiroa. Maybe this year . I would go with Poehere's advice as she knows the islands.
There are the 2 different experiences with "mountains" and with the flat lands. A nice contrast for sure.

OK :) then my last question would be - should I skip Moorea and Huahine?

Let me tell you about my experiences so you can get a feel for what I've seen and done.
On our first trip we did 7 nights Moorea (Intercontinental) and 5 on Bora Bora (Sofitel Motu). I loved Moorea--we walked a lot, snorkelled, canoed, took a 4x4 tour of the island, ate at 1 fancy restaurant. I found the 5 nights on Bora Bora too long because, even though the island and lagoon are beautiful, it felt too touristy to me (that might be because we stayed where all the resorts are) and kind of boring. We did a shark and ray feeding and ate at 1 fancy restaurant.
On our second trip, we spent 5 nights at a different part of Moorea (Pension Motu Iti), walked a lot more, kayaked, snorkelled, and relaxed more. Then we spent 5 nights on Huahine (Rande's Shack), walked on the beach into town (Fare) daily, swam, snorkelled, biked, did a 4x4 tour, cooked our own food, etc. Then we spent 6 nights on Fakarava (Raimiti), an atoll similar to Rangiroa, where we snorkelled, kayaked, and relaxed whole-heartedly.
This time we're going to spend 2 whole weeks on Moorea (at Club Bali Hai) and we have no specific plans for our stay. I love Moorea--the green mountains, the lagoon, the people, the variety of things to see and do. Since we've seen all that we "need" to see, we'll play it by ear and book tours or do nothing.
So my recommendation for people on their first trip is usually to go to Moorea and Bora Bora and don't spend more than 4 nights on Bora Bora (but no less because 3 nights would be far too hectic for me).
And I usually recommend you go to Moorea first because it's easy and fast to get to from Tahiti and will seem really slow-paced after your normal life. Then move on to your other island(s) where the pace is slower still.

I am with Poehere -- I think that Bora Bora and Rangiroa would be fabulous. Whatever hotel you go for in BB, make sure your room has a really great view of Mt. Otemanu from your deck. Sure, everyone goes to BB (and food is super pricey there), but there's a reason. The lagoon, the mountain. If you're only going once, you should include BB.
Rangiroa is emphatically not just for divers or snorkelers, I disagree with the advice you received on that point. The atolls have such a different feel to them. They are really worth experiencing. Also, Rangi is a great place to pick up beautiful pearls at reasonable prices. Also also, the Kia Ora just finished a massive, several-year renovation and has only recently fully re-opened, so you would be at a property that was spanking new. I've seen the photos (and we've stayed at the property several times pre-renovation) -- it looks like a dream.
Sorry to confuse you even more. I just got back from taking my parents to Tahiti so I've got some strong opinions. :o)
