Electricity - Converter?

I'm going on my first trip to Tahiti/Bora Bora/Moorea next month and am taking the following electronics:
-Asus Eee 1000HE netbook and power cord -Charger for LG phone (not essential since phone won't work over there anyway, but it has my music on it) -Charger for Kodak Playsport Zx5 digital camcorder
My other devices, a MagicWand portable scanner and Olympus digital voice recorder run on batteries, as does my point and shoot Canon.
I have a 25-year-old+ Franzus 1600 watt converter and four adaptors. Here's what is says on the back of the converter:
"Franzus Foreign Electricity Converter. Model No. 1600. Converts 220/240 AC to 110/120 C. For use with appliances 50 to 1600 watts. Hair styler/s dryers, irons, coffee cup heaters, clothes steamers, hair curlers, setters. Made in USA by Franzus Co., New York."
Do you think this will work? I searched "converter" and "electricity" on the forum but nothing showed up, so I apologize for asking if it's already on here, but I couldn't find it.
Thank you!
Jo

I take an adaptor (so my stuff plugs into their outlets)--the European kind. I don't take a converter any more because I find all of my newish electronics work on 220/240 (my hairdryer has to have a switch moved...the others just accept it naturally). I guess it must depend on how old they are, but check your manuals and see if all of yours are ok on 220/240. When I took a converter one time, it told me NOT to use it on blowdryers, irons, etc. because they drew too much electricity.

Thanks OW. So if they're okay on 220/240 then it means I don't need the converter - just the adapter?

Jobelle, normally you'd only need an adapter and not a converter, these are used for hair appliances etc with high voltage. You should check on the appliances if it mentions 110 _ 240 V... in which case you're fine.
Weatherwise: there has been enormous rain downpour in the last few days which is VERY unusual for this time of year (we're very happy because there was a huge draught everywhere though) so not much to say about that other than nature has it's cause... and all the rain that is falling now, won't fall tomorrow sort of!
Regarding the culture habits and other... it was not meant to scare you, but just to make you aware. Most people have a state of mind of decades ago, it is a different world. You should be fine as Polynesians are very gentle and kind people but they have some particular and for you maybe peculiar habits, that's all.
I sincerely hope you'll have a great trip!

Poehere, my netbook computer says
Input: 100-240v, 50-60Hz.
So will an adapter be okay with that? I have to check my phone charger and digital camera charger. That's it for appliances for me.
So sad to hear about the rain. :-( I had a feeling this was not a great time to go, but I had no choice. I wish I could say I love walking in the rain, but I don't. I hate it!
BUT....trying to stay positive and grateful and hoping for the best. If I get even ONE sunny day I will be happy.
Thanks,
Jo

50 - 60 Hz is ok, in some islands our elec company runs on 50 Hz (like Marqueses etc) in the Society islands though everything runs at 60 Hz.. Voltage wise, everything here is between 220 and 240 V so you should be ok with just an adapter for the plugs, usually available at the resorts.
It is only for "heavy" high wattage appliances like hair curlers and so you'd need a converter.
Don't feel sad about the rain, they say tomorrow it is finished, it came from Samoa... days and days but it filled up our tanks and makes the islands "breath" again as we had very serious drought this year. We were on orange alert for the rain but it is turning back to normal tomorrow

Thanks Poehere! Glad the rain helped you.
I have a bag full of adapters, so I should be okay.

JoBelle, the adapter looks like this: It has 2 round prongs.

Thanks DenverJoe. One of my adapters does indeed look like that. The others have flat prongs -- one adapter has the prongs straight in, the other one has them tilted.
I will probably empty the bag at the front desk and ask, Which one do I use? lol
thanks
