Thanks, Patti. I'll definitely buy round-trip tickets.

If you are staying in super-cheap pensions, check to make sure they provide towels. I always carry a small, fast-drying pack towel from REI (that takes up no room or weight). Just in case.

Hey everybody!!!
Thanks so much for all the advise! All my food/board is taken care of in Ahe, so just taking enough money to Ahe to buy a few beers and souvenirs.
Moorea sounds AMAZING! I'm getting back to Tahiti at 4pm on the 9th of December, and I have a Hawaiian Airlines flight that leaves from Tahiti at 12:30 am on the 11th. Would I have enough time to make it to Moorea, dive, and be safe to fly?
I'm taking all my own bedding, towel, and bug net, so no worries there! I have to do that for work, so I already have everything I really need in that area!
Thanks again!

Hi Rachel, I suggest you enroll in DAN (it's cheap and gives amazing dive insurance plus 24-hour access if you have medical questions). They are one of the most trusted sources for dive medicine in the country. (Here is a link to their dive medicine FAQ: http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/medical/faq/0.7101).
Here is what DAN has to say about flying after diving (keep in mind that risk goes up the deeper you dive before flying). I tend to give myself a full 24 hours before international flights just to be safe. If you are still in doubt, call them. They are very nice and will probably give you guidance even if you are not a member.:
"The following guidelines are the consensus of attendees at the 2002 Flying After Diving Workshop. They apply to air dives followed by flights at cabin altitudes of 2,000 to 8,000 feet (610 to 2,438 meters) for divers who do not have symptoms of decompression sickness (DCS). The recommended preflight surface intervals do not guarantee avoidance of DCS. Longer surface intervals will reduce DCS risk further.
For a single no-decompression dive, a minimum preflight surface interval of 12 hours is suggested. For multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving, a minimum preflight surface interval of 18 hours is suggested. For dives requiring decompression stops, there is little evidence on which to base a recommendation and a preflight surface interval substantially longer than 18 hours appears prudent."

You know, looking at that, I'd give DAN a call. Cabins for international flights are pressurized to the equivalent of 8000 feet for passenger comfort, but obviously the planes themselves fly higher than that. I'd call and double-check.
Inter-island flights go by different rules, with shorter interval times.
