we arrived in Papeete last Sunday, THANKS to POEHERE.

We stayed at Fare Suisse (thanks to Hamara? for that tip) Beni takes credit cards. It is an absolute bargain with the transportation both ways to the airport and a very lovely all you can eat breakfast for $10.00. (I use American dollars because it is far easier for me to say that than put in the conversion because who knows what it is. It is a way for me to think about it)

The whole pension is spotless and the rooms are very zen, I feel.

We took a cab to the immigration the next day to get our visa stamp. We had the driver wait. Immigration is right by the President's home. We could take Le Truck, but cab is easier. It took a few minutes. Although we had purchased 2 visa stamps for $90 each, we needed only one. The one on my husbands carte de sejour. I guess the wife doesn't count.

We got a year's visa and can renew right in Papeete for another year. That will save a lot of money as we do not have to go to the consulate in Chicago then.

We tried to get an earlier flight as our business was quick, but the flights were totally full with the teams for the Hawaiki Nui Va.

We witnessed the race. Huahine was full to the brim with people, food booths, and little shops selling items. The next day, Huahine was back to normal.

Lapita is quite lovely and I go to the beach there everyday. It is good swimming there and snorkeling as well.

We have not eaten there yet, but apparently the prices are similar to Snack Temarara which I find very reasonable.

People are concerned about the Te Tiare because of the fact it is up for sale. It would be a great retreat for a movie star, if nothing else. Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio own islands, so there must be a star who would love Te Tiare!!

A movie is being made on Huahine--the Flying Dutchman. It will be released in about a year. Actors are staying at the Villas Bougainville, which I feel is the best bargain anywhere. A spotless house with all amenities, car and boat. Immaculate, manicured grounds where you can pick your own fruit. It is such a ridiculous bargain.

We are hoping for a car. We have a line on one. In the meantime, we are riding bikes. I have mine from last May when I left. I am thankful I have it, but the junk that is sent to the islands is pathetic. It is referred to as "colony" quality. Fortunately, my hubby could repair the bike I rode for 2 months!!!

Apparently, the weather is supposed to get warmer starting Nov 20. I get a little chilly if I am on the beach around 5 PM now. If I am in town, it is HOT, but it is not that hot on the water right now.

I have a different name on here, as we only have my hubby's laptop.

We purchased a vini for here for $100 including a sim card and free one hour. We had to have someone change it to English for us. We purchased it at the post office.

I have been using my Nook on the beach, and I feel my things are fairly safe on the beach by Lapita.

Holte, I am so glad to hear your news, and that you have safely arrived and settled in! And, perhaps, that you are DONE with going through the Chicago consulate (unless you don't go back to FP before your visa/carte de sejour expires)!

Have a wonderful time!

Inese, I haven't been on the forum for ages - great to see you're in Huahine again, have a wonderful time! Do you know if Lucy is still working at RM? We're planning another trip to the Cooks..

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.

Finnano-sounds like you have abandoned FP for the Cooks?

We are getting our own car in a few days, so we will drive over to RM and see if Lucy is still there.

Congrats Inese.......you've realized your dream!!! Where are you living....at Marty's rental?
We love Te Tiare. Please let us know how things are going with the place. We're hoping to get back sometime in the late spring.
We send you our best regards.

yes, we are living at Marty's other house. She made a huge terrace on the back and it is great. We do bring screened tents so we can sit outside all of the time.

Everyone is talking about the Te Tiare, but no one knows what is happening. Everyone has their own theory .

I am excited because we are getting a car on Friday-a Fiat Panda cat-cat. Why everything is "cat-cat' is beyond me.

I like riding the bike for exercise, but I hate how close some cars come when I am riding.

Super Fare Nui has a lot of products from U brand. We all think it is awful, so when you go shopping there, no U stuff. Ick

Did I mention Air Tahiti weighed everything? There was no getting out of it. But the price is not bad. Something like one dollar a kilo.

Holte, "cat-cat" is short for "quatre-quatre" or 4 x 4! It took me many years to figure that out! Does your car have 4-wheel drive?

Marty's house is in a great location......easy enough to walk into Fare if you had too but now with the car, you are super mobile. I HATE parking in Fare though.....have seen way too many fender benders and near misses car vs. bicycle.
Keep us informed re Te Tiare when you can.
I'm so happy for you!
