My fiance and I are looking for a place to stay for two nights before we go to stay at Au Motu Mohare and are thinking about Motel Vanille. We will be coming from nice accommodations in Moorea and are looking for something much more low key and a good place to use as a base and close to eating as we are going to use these two days to explore the island. Any reviews on Motel Vanille or other suggestions on where to stay? Thanks!

Randee's Shack is very nice and you couldn't meet nicer people that Randee and his lovely wife Emeere. Close to Fare and super reasonably priced. It has a very small beach in front but within walking distance to the nice beach on the way to Fare.

I live within spitting distance of Motel Vanille. I do not recommend it. There are much better choices such as what Vaitape suggests.
Our favorite is Villas Bougainville which is spotless (I saw them power washing the outside yesterday) and it comes with a car and boat.

Villas Bougainville require a 3 night stay and we are only looking for 2, would like to keep things around $100 per night. Maurii said they had a beach room available, but I've heard so many bad things about that place if you are not staying in a bungalow.

Rande's Shack is close to $100 per night (the one bedroom bungalow) and we absolutely loved it there. You get free use of a washing machine, too (which is great midway on your trip) and you can walk into Fare for food at the roulottes or restaurants or else cook in the full kitchen. The snorkelling in front of Rande's is really good, too!

The more I think about it, the more I think Randee's would suit you well....especially after OW's comment about the washing machine.....very handy and the roulottes!

Meant to write that eating at the roulottes is economical and the food, though simple, is delicious AND the roulottes provide a fun way to interact with the locals. Plus the setting has fabulous views since it's right on the quay.

I am sure that you could get 2 nights at the Villas, but not for $100. But if you want a car and a boat, the price of the Villas Bougainville is practically free because a boat is $100 to rent and a car is about 70.
Rande's shack is very convenient for all activities.
I prefer the Smack Temara for food (just a cheap as a roulotte in many ways and a beautiful view).
Loana at the other end of Fare has a permanent roulotte now. I think it's called Best Burgers. On the water side. But, she serves lunch only. And not everyday. Excellent. The fish burgers are divine.
The pizza guy is there in the evenings. Good as well. The permanent pizza place -Hamanene (sp?) is great, but it would be a little bit of a hike to get there

If you do go to Rande's Shack, pack a flashlight if you're going to walk back in the dark (I wouldn't recommend it). We bought food for dinner and you could easily do that and buy lunch at a roulotte for your main meal.

Good point about the safety of walking back to Randee's in the dark.
We like Snack Temara and also Chez Guynette (coldest beers in Fare!).
