No, DJ, you are spot on!!
Most of our friends can't believe how much the air fares are to FP - they are happy to just spend $1-2K on a week to Fiji or Bali.
So how do we convince people to travel to FP when they haven't been there before and can travel to another ""island paradise"" for 1/10th of the price?

I don't find that the air fares are much different than what I see going from the small city I live in. If we fly to Minneapolis (150 miles away), the price is about the same as flying to Huahine to Papeete.
A couple of times I have had to pay 700 pp to fly from my city (Duluth, MN)to LAX, so I am not surprised by Air Tahiti at all.
Air Tahiti provides air services to the children of the other islands who have to go to school in Papeete.
They are eliminating more and more flights, I have read, to the more obscure islands .
I don't understand ATN which can offer dirt cheap flights to Paris, but double the price to Tahiti,
