My boyfriend and I went to Tahiti and Bora Bora which was just beyond beautiful... it was basically like being awake in a dream... a dream I never want to wake up from. The boat ride from the airport to our resort, Le Meridien, which is located on the motu surrounding the island, was unlike anything I had ever seen in my life with my naked eyes. It was so remote and exotic, I could scarcely believe such a place could exist anywhere except in my imagination. I had read that Bora Bora is the most beautiful and sought after travel destination in the world and I immediately saw why people were saying that. The water was the most amazing color of turquoise I had ever seen, the vegetation was so pretty and abundant, and the local people were very kind and friendly.
Our bungalow was what I like to call elegant and a little rustic, and surprisingly spacious inside... it had the glass floor and the private deck and all that. Sometimes from the exterior they look small but the size was comfortable and intimate. It also had a spiral staircase that went right down into the sea! I thought our bungalow was clean and stylish enough to feel pampered but not so fancy it took us away from the feeling of being close to nature. The whole resort was just fabulous and the landscaping looked so lush and natural. We swam, snorkeled, played volleyball, took tons of photos, played with the sea creatures, frolicked, attempted to speak French, took a tour around the main island in a rental car, did a little shopping, and generally just soaked up the ecstatic aura of the surroundings.
The dining cabana was right on the water with open walls to the lagoon. We could watch the fish and turtles swim around while we ate, and talk about an exotic dining experience! We even saw a stingray swim by our bungalow more than once on our walk up to the main lodge. What a cool feeling!
Did I mention the weather was gorgeous? Gorgeous and hot! Sometimes we'd be walking around and then WHSSSSSSSSH!!! The rain would come crashing down and that's NOT an exaggeration. It was like showering with your clothes on. We even got some thunder and lightening. But then it would clear up moments later and be hot again. And it's great because you can just walk around with your swim suit on and be prepared for rain or shine either way.
We went on a shark and ray feeding which was really something. I never thought I'd swim with sharks and feel safe! Just like the tour guides and staff were really friendly, so were the fishies and other sea creatures. They all seemed in good spirits and happy in their environment... that is except for one creature, an eel. It was pretty cranky when we found it.
We saw the Polynesian dance show on one of the nights we were there and that was a colorful, energetic feast for the senses. After that we went out on the beach, laid on one of the boats and looked up at the stars. I think our vacation in Bora Bora was the closest thing to Heaven I've ever experienced. I would definitely recommend a vacation to French Polynesia to anyone who is searching for Heaven on earth and a truly unique experience. You'll never want to leave and the memories of it's unbelievable beauty will stay with you forever.
We just can't wait to get back there! There's more to see so be sure to check out page 2 also. |
